Machaut Men

This small ensemble of male voices is dedicated to presenting the rich repertoire of early European and American vocal music in a lively and engaging style. taking their name from the first genius of Western Music, Guillame Machaut, the Machaut Men draw upon their own eclectic performance experience to reflect the variety of Machaut’s compositions, which range from catchy popular tunes to complex polyphony. The Machaut Men repertoire extends to music of the English Tudor court, especially the astonishing output of Henry VIII, a talented composer in his own right.

E. Michael Markwiss is a baroque reed player and singer who often conducts The Machaut Men from their base near Newark, New Jersey. He is also a musicologists and educator, founder and director of the Boy Choristers at the Academy of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.

Mr. Markwiss and the Machaut Men will be artistic collaborators of the KnabenChor Virtuosi/Wien for their inaugural concert tour titled Via Crucis- Italian Early Music for Holy Week. This profound, haunting program was created by Mr. Markwiss based on extensive musicology research.

The Via Crucis tour is scheduled for March 2006.
